Here is the First Peoples’ Principles of Learning:
Reflection (This is what it means to me as a teacher moving forward):
It is important to incorporate First Peoples’ Principles of Learning into our teaching and learning. Firstly, Indigenous people have lived and learned on this traditional land for thousands of years, accumulated rich experiences on this land and made great contributions to the land and the history. Therefore, we need to respectfully acknowledge them and their principles of learning. Secondly, First Peoples’ Principles of Learning has important values in guiding teaching and learning. Indigenous people gained knowledge through experiences. Through repeated practices and reflections, they improved their skills and applied it into practices. First Peoples’ Principles of Learning allows us to combine perceptual knowledge and rational knowledge effectively and makes the learning process entertaining. Thirdly, these principles can guide us to support our well-being through learning and become life-long learners. Therefore, we need to value the wisdom and the effectiveness in First Peoples’ Principles of Learning.
